CSCW '14 PC Meeting, Aug 2013

About

I am a Collaboration Researcher at GE Global Research. I'm part of the GE Software Center of Excellence in San Ramon, CA. Here's a New York Times feature article about the work I'm doing at GE and my GE profile.

In spring/summer of 2012 I was a GE mentor in the CMU Masters in HCI Capstone project course.

Before joining GE, I was a Computing Innovation Fellow with Ed Chi (now at Google Research) and Peter Pirolli in the Augmented Social Cognition group at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC).

I received my Ph.D. from the
College of Information Sciences and Technology at the Penn State University in May 2010. My Ph.D. dissertation examined how people collaboratively make sense of information during information seeking activities in two domains - healthcare and Web search. In the healthcare domain, I examined how healthcare providers in a hospital emergency department collaborate to understand information regarding patient care. In the domain of Web search, I studied how groups of people engaged in a joint Web search task make sense of the information found during their search.

In the fall of 2009, I interned at
Microsoft Research in Redmond, WA with Danyel Fisher and Kori Inkpen in the VIBE group. I also spent the summer of 2008 at Microsoft Research, working with Merrie Morris in the ASI group.

My research interests broadly lie in the fields of human-computer interaction (HCI), computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW), social computing, collaborative and social Web search, and social mobile applications.

I
completed my Bachelors in Computer Sciences and Engineering at the Birla Institute of Technology in India.
